Lincoln Haydon homered with two outs in the top of the sixth and those runs held up as Marion County's 11-12-year-old All-Stars beat Russell County 2-0 in the opening round of the District Tournament in Campbellsville on Monday night.
Haydon was great with the bat, but Robbie Spalding's arm stifled Adair most of the night. Spalding gave up three hits and didn't allow a base on balls. He fanned seven.
Jeremy Morris, besides scoring the winning run, had one other safety in the game.
Marion will play Adair County at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
9-10 All-Stars lose to Russell County
Marion County fought back to lead 9-8, but Russell County scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to down the Marion 9-10-year-old team 10-9 in Campbellsville at Miller Park.
Marion played from behind most of the game, trailing 6-2 after three frames. But Marion scored seven runs in its last two at-bats and had two outs on Russell County in the sixth before a bad-hop single and double spelled the ultimate doom.
Colby Hood, who plated three runs in the sixth with a home run, had two other hits as well. Brandon Lee, Andrew Spalding, Isaac Lanham and Bailey Edelen all hit safely for the losing team.
The 9-10-year-olds play again Wednesday at 8 p.m. against Adair County.
