Bardstown woman dead after collision near St. Francis

A Bardstown woman was killed during a fatal collision that occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. Sunday on Highway 527 near St. Francis.

James Pinkston, 36, of Bardstown, was traveling north on Hwy 527 four miles north of St. Francis when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway, striking a tree.

Pinkston was ejected from the vehicle. A passenger, Shannon Pinkston, 34, of Bardstown, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County coroner. James Pinkston was transported to the University of Louisville hospital by Marion County E.M.S. James and Shannon Pinkston were not wearing seat belts and air bags were deployed.

The Marion County EMS, Marion County Fire Department, Marion County Rescue Squad, Loretto Fire Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Department assisted Kentucky State Police. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, the accident is still under investigation.
