Saturday nights in Loretto are known to get lively and this past Saturday was no exception. A barn behind Hawk's Place was destroyed by a fire, and the cause is suspected to be arson.

The fire, which was fully involved when firefighters arrived, was reported at 11:37 p.m.

The Loretto Fire Department, Marion County EMS, Marion County Sheriff's Department and Kentucky State Police responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be arson, according to Loretto Fire Chief Mark Mattingly.

The barn, which belonged to Joe Paul Hawkins, housed two carriages (owned by Jamie Yates), horse harnesses and hay, Mattingly said.

A Kentucky State Police arson investigator inspected the scene early Sunday morning and the scene was cleared at 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

The barn was reported to have re-ingnited at 9:38 a.m. Sunday. The scene was cleared at 10:34 a.m.

Another arson investigator was expected to examine the scene Monday, according to Mattingly.
