Baseball Knights win for the road

The Marion County Knights baseball team played two district games on the road last week. Friday’s scheduled home game against Fern Creek was cancelled due to wet field conditions.
The Knights are 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the district.

Marion County 10, Taylor County 8
The Marion County Knights visited the Taylor County Cardinals Thursday. The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Devin Spalding reached base on a walk, and Robbie Spalding hit his first home run. Marion County scored eight more runs while allowing Taylor County to score eight runs as well. The Knights won the game 10-8.
The Knights had 10 hits in the game, with Robbie Spalding and Levi Haydon leading the offense with three hits each. Justin Lark added two hits.
Robbie Spalding was the winning pitcher. He gave up three hits and four walks, while striking out two batters in five innings. Levi Haydon, Michael Costello and Justin Lark pitched in relief. Lark got the save.  
“Robbie Spalding and Levi Haydon led us in this game at the plate,” Coach Chad Spalding said. “Robbie hit the team’s first home run of the year and both had clutch hits when we needed them. This was a good win for us.”

Marion County 7, Campbellsville 2
The Knights travelled to  Campbellsville April 16. Marion County scored three runs in the first inning and played solid defense, allowing two Eagles’ runs The Knights added four more runs in the game to win, 7-2.
As a team, Marion County had 13 hits. Alex Gordon lead the offense with three hits. Robbie Spalding, Joey Costello, Michael Costello and Jeremy Morris each chipped in two hits. Joey and Michael Costello, Robbie Spalding, Jacob Overstreet, and Jeremy Morris all doubled in the win.
Joey Costello pitched a completed game for the win. He faced 29 batters, gave up eight hits and one walk, and struck out three.

The Marion County Knights baseball team played Monday against Thomas Nelson and Tuesday in a district game against Adair County. The Knights host Campbellsville tomorrow, and Green County on Friday night.
