The 2014 Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff will be held Friday, Jan. 24, and Saturday, Jan. 25, at Marion County High School.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. for Friday evening's "Come Play with Flatt Lonesome.”
Also Friday, the second annual KBMK Soup Fest will be held in the high school cafeteria. For $8, diners can have soup or chili, cornbread, crackers, dessert and a choice of tea, lemonade or water.
On Saturday, workshops ($20 each) will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the high school for banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and dobro. The singer-songwriter competition will be held at 2 p.m., also at the high school.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. Saturday evening for the dinner show. The Lonesome River Band is this year's featured act. Flatt Lonesome, The Moron Brothers, the winner of the singer-songwriter competition, and local artists will perform Saturday evening.
Tickets for the Saturday dinner show are $49 each. This includes admission for both the Friday and Saturday evening shows.
For $25, visitors can attend both shows, but the Saturday dinner is not included. Concessions will be available, however.
For $10, visitors can attend the Friday evening show. Children 11 and younger get in free to the Friday show.
The Heart of Kentucky Quilt Show will also take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marion County Heritage Center. Admission is $5 per person.
The quilt show will include a display of the quilts entered in the competition, a presentation by Dixie Hibbs, and a scrap exchange. To participate in the scrap exchange, bring a baggie with 36 five-inch by five-inch squares to trade with other visitors.
