Marion County schools are closed today, Friday, Jan. 25, but the 2013 Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff is still going ahead as planned.
Brad Lanham, president of the Kentucky Fellowship of Musicians, said the entertainers are in town for tonight's portion of the bluegrass festival. As of noon, the plan was to hold the event as scheduled.
Marion County Superintendent Chuck Hamilton announced that schools are closed today due to poor road conditions.
Registration for kindergarten and preschool for the 2013-14 academic year has been rescheduled until Friday, Feb. 1, from noon to 6 p.m. at each of the Marion County public elementary schools.
Marion County Emergency Management Director Haydent Johnson advised that roads in and around Marion County should be considered slick and hazardous due to sleet and freezing rain. The Kentucky State Police have advised drivers to stay off the roads unless it is "absolutely necessary."
