Approving trips and fundraisers is usually routine business at the Marion County Board of Education meetings, but it wasn't routine during its regular monthly meeting last week.
When it was time to approve the overnight trips for the Lady Knights basketball team, Board Member Mike Cecil asked if there was a reason the paperwork was being turned in so early. The trips that were up for approval were trips to basketball tournaments in late December and January in Lexington, Mount Sterling and Louisville.
Marion County Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton said because of past concerns he wanted to give the board enough time to ask questions.
Board Member Michael Mullins said the paperwork turned in for the basketball trips wasn't complete.
Cecil said he also had concerns about paperwork being incomplete.
The board voted not to approve any of the trips until the paperwork was fully completed.
Creation of assistant cross-country coach
The board voted Tuesday of last week to create an assistant cross-country coach position because the numbers for Marion County's cross-country team have increased.
