The Marion County High School cross-country team was a pulled muscle away from missing the state meet coming up.
Matthew Mattingly, who made the state meet easily last year, came up lame during the Class 2A Region Two meet on Saturday afternoon, according to Head Coach Sherbie King. Mattingly was noticeably in pain as he crossed the finish line.
King said throughout the year Mattingly has consistently been 15 to 20 seconds behind Taylor County's Wes Colvin, who finished second in the region.
