Commission looking for someone who embraces technology, social media

By Stevie Lowery

Lebanon Tourist & Convention Commission Chairman Dan Lawson said he's already received emails inquiring about the vacant executive director position, which is now officially vacant after Chris Hamilton's last day on the job Friday, Aug. 19.

The commission decided during a special called meeting Tuesday of last week that it will begin advertising the position in numerous Landmark Community Newspapers (parent company of The Lebanon Enterprise) as well as tourism associations throughout the state. The commission will accept applications until Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Commissioner Tom Lund said he was getting the feeling that the commission was in a hurry to hire someone.

"I'd like to see us take our time and do it right," Lund said.

Commissioner David Winebrenner Jr., said he thought the search should be thorough, but that the commission needed to get on top of it now.

Commissioner Carlotta Brussell agreed.

"I don't think it's something we should sit back and take six months..." she said. "We've got momentum right now on our side. And I don't think we need to let the momentum just die."

Chairman Lawson said the search shouldn't take more than 60 days.

In terms of what the commission will be looking for, Winebrenner said strong skills in technology will be key.

"Having somebody who is very familiar with and embraces the social media, and technology, I think that's important," he said. "Having somebody who is not proficient with social media would be a disadvantage."

The commission's next meeting is Monday, Sept. 12.
