Marion County High School senior Makayla Epps has added another award to her collection. During the KHSAA Sweet 16, Epps was notified that she won the Gatorade Kentucky Girls Basketball Player of the Year for 2013.
This award not only recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court.
Epps’ selection as the Kentucky player of the year placed her in the running for National Player of the Year.
That award was announced last week, and Mercedes Russell was chosen as the Gatorade Girls’ Basketball National Player of the Year.
Epps, along with teammate Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, will be heading to the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville this Friday night to attend the ceremony where the announcement of Kentucky’s Miss Basketball will be made.
