Five Marion Countians competing in state Special Olympics

More than 1,200 athletes, including five from Marion County, are scheduled to compete in the 2009 Special Olympics Kentucky.

The event will be held June 5-7 at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond for the 15th consecutive year.

The five Marion Countians participating in this year's events are William Daugherty (800 meters, 400 meters),

Ashley Rakes (800 meters, 400 meters), Lucille Richard (100-meter walk, shot put), Joseph Taylor (100-meter walk, shot put), Laura Smith (50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter freestyle).
