The Marion County Health Department has provided some food safety tips when the power goes out.
Do not open your refrigerator or freezer. By keeping the fridge closed, foods will keep safely for about four hours. A full freezer will hold its temperature for about 48 hours; a half-full freezer for 24 hours.
If a power outage lasts more than 2-4 hours, pack refrigerated foods (such as milk and other dairy products, meat, eggs and leftovers) into a cooler surrounded by ice.
