Get ready for Family Bike and Hike

Imagine getting up earlier on a beautiful day and going somewhere where everyone is excited and in a great mood. The atmosphere is uplifting, knowing you are about to do something fun that is also wonderful for your health. The sense of accomplishment that you will feel at the end is amazing! And anyone can do it!
I am talking about a 5K walk/run or 10K bike ride. A number of community partners are once again organizing a Family Bike and Hike for April 20. You and your family will have the option of walking/running a 5K (3.1 miles) or doing a 10K (6.2 miles) bike ride. This is a great opportunity to spend time with your family and do something good for your health!
Anyone can do a 5K. Preparing for a 5K does not require a lot of training and the race goes by fairly quickly. It is for people of all fitness levels – you can walk or run. Marking the date on your calendar motivates you to get going and gives your training a purpose. 
If walking or running doesn’t interest you, then maybe a 10K (6.2 miles) bike ride will. It is a ride, not a race. It is a great way to have fun, spend time with your family, and teach your children that physical activity can be fun as well as good for their health. 
The number one goal is to have fun and get healthy! You don’t have to be an everyday runner or cyclist to do these events. It is not a race against others, but a race against yourself. People of all ages and sizes do these races. It is so fulfilling to cross the finish line - to achieve a specific goal you have been working toward. It is open to the entire community, so even if you don’t participate in the walk/run or bike ride, please come out to the park to learn some new and important ways to keep you and your family healthy.
I challenge you to challenge your family, friends, bunco group, co-workers, or whoever to join us for a great day of fitness and fun on April 20. All participants will receive a T-shirt, breakfast, goody bag and be eligible for door prizes.
