The Marion County cross country teams competed against Taylor County Campbellsville on Sept 12 at Par 3 Golf Course at Miller Park in Campbellsville. It was their first meet of the season.
The JV team ran 1.6 miles while the varsity team ran 3.1 miles.
Knights Coach Sherbie King got to see how the team performed for their first time off the track.
“It showed my kids conditioning,” King said. “It was the first time they actually had to go out and run three miles.”
King noted that it was also the first time the Knights and Lady Knights experienced grassy terrain.
According to him, the team has only run on the paved surface so the grass they experienced was a whole different ball game.
In the boys varsity race, freshman Tyron Bell led Marion County with a time of 24:52. Eighth-grader Diego Reyes finished in 25:49. Ethan Higdon (26:36) and Alejandro Espinosa (28:46) also ran for the Knights.
In the boys JV race, Jinno Shunki finished fourth, completing the 3K course in 10:44.
In the girls JV race, Laurel Brahm set the pace for Marion County, finishing second in 12:13. Anna Kate Hardin was fourth in 12:57, and May Emmons was fifth in 13:05.
Autumn McCarty finished ninth in 15:25, and Hallie Hamilton was 11th in 15:35.
