Historic Penn's Store, three miles south east of Gravel Switch, will honor writers at the 2010 Kentucky Writers Day Celebration April 23-25.
On Friday night, April 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m., at The Oak Barrel in Lebanon, Billy Reed, national award-winning magazine and newspaper journalist, will present a copy of his book, "The Monarchs and The Great American Rock 'n Roll Dream" to Elmer J. George in honor of the late Hyleme George, owner of Club 68 and former mayor of Lebanon. The book contains a chapter dedicated to Club 68 and the rock-n-roll era in Lebanon where the Monarchs frequently played to a huge following. Reed will also do a book signing and have his latest book, "Freedom Hall" available for signing. Several writers and entertainers will perform Friday night as well.
The daytime programs Saturday and Sunday will be held on the grounds of Historic Penn's Store from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with readings by poets, authors, writers, journalists and songwriters.
On Saturday night, the "Songwriters" will be showcased from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at The Oak Barrel in Lebanon.
