The Marion County Cross Country team traveled to Mercer County on Tuesday, Sept. 20, to participate in their third meet of the season.
In the girls meet, the Lady Knights competed against 10 schools with a combined 39 runners and placed fourth as a team. Individually, Morgan Avritt finished eighth, Hope Riggs placed 13th, Madison Avritt finished 16th, Courtney Hutchins placed 25th, and Emily Clark finished 34th.
On the boys side, the Marion County Knights competed against 10 schools with a total of 82 runners, placing 10th as a team. Individually, the runners placed as follows: Tyler Fields 47th, Rio Ogasawara 61st, Tyler Garrard 69th, Ryker Cassidy 70th, Logan Vaughn 72, Logan Ballard 75th, and Dylan Leake 78th.
The Marion County Middle School girls team competed against 10 schools with a total of 72 runners, and placed 5th as a team. The results are: Meredith Bartley 34th, Laurel Brahm 42nd, Jayla Cowherd 49th, Autumn McCarty 50th, Hallie Hamilton 51st, Gretchen Walston 52nd, Mariella Curtis 59th, and Skylar McCarty 70th.
The Marion County Middle School boys team competed against 13 teams, with 105 combined runners. Ty Wheeler finished 80th, Noah Leake placed 82nd, Noah Spalding finished 89th, and Austin Wethington placed 95th.
The Marion County Cross Country team traveled to Taylor County on Thursday, Sept. 15. Due to some problems with names and times, all results are not known at this time. However, it is known that Chelsea Wright, an eighth grader at Lebanon Middle School, took first place for the girls cross country team at the Taylor County meet.
Members of the cross country team also competed in the Pokey Pig 5K, and here is how some of the runners finished. Nathan Devine came in second for the 13-17 boys group. Morgan Avritt came in first and Madison Avritt came in second for the 13-17 girls group. Ty Wheeler came in third in the 12 and under boys group. Laurel Brahm came in first, Jayla Cowherd came in second, and Autumn McCarty came in third in the 12 and under girls group.
