The Marion County Knights baseball team played three games during spring break week, losing two of the three contests. Marion County’s record on the season now stands at 5-6.
“I think our team is growing,” Coach Chad Spalding said. “We have hit well the first third of the season and the pitching has been better than average. We will continue to work to get better with the gloves and clean baseball.”

Marion County 13, Metcalfe County 2
The Marion County Knights baseball team hosted Metcalfe County Thursday, coming away with their only victory of the week in a 13-2 win in five innings of play.  Marion County used a huge eight run second inning and a three-run fourth inning to really put the pressure on Metcalfe County.
Marion County had 12 hits as a team, with Alex Gordon, Michael Costello, Joey Costello, and Robbie Spalding each having two hits.
Devin Spalding, Levi Haydon, Jeremy Morris, and Jacob Overstreet each added one hit in the win.  Joey Costello had a triple in the game, while Alex Gordon went 2-2 in stolen base attempts.
Robbie Spalding picked up the win from the mound for the Knights, pitching five innings and facing 23 batters. Spalding gave up two runs off of five hits and one walk, and struck out seven Metcalfe County batters.
“We continued to stay hot with the bats and played another solid game defensively,” Spalding said. “This was a good win for us to end play on spring break as we get ready for district play starting next week.”

Eastern 8, Marion County 4
The Marion County Knights baseball team hosted Eastern on Tuesday of last week, losing by a final score of 8-4. The Knights scored two runs in the first and seventh innings, but couldn’t produce any offense in the middle of the game, despite outhitting Eastern eight to six.
“They were another solid team that took advantage of some walks and hit batters in this game,” Spalding noted. “We played better defense this game.”

Southwestern Pulaski 15, Marion County 6
The Marion County Knights hosted Southwestern Pulaski on April 1. The Knights had 10 hits as a team, but eight miscues in the game proved to be troublesome to Marion County as they gave up 15 runs in the game, losing 15-6.
“A pretty solid team we played, but we made too many mistakes defensively to remain in the game,” Spalding said. “We hit the ball great and made up for some errors early in the game. Alex Gordon and Joey Costello led the way for us offensively.”
