With another round of match play in the books, the Marion County High School golf team improved their match play record to 13-5.
However, the focus this week is on tournament play as the Knights host the Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) tournament Monday and the third annual Marion County Invitational Saturday at Rosewood Golf Course.
"This year's field (for the MC Invitational) contains some of the finest teams in the state," Knights Head Coach Freddie Leathers said. "Defending champion Grayson County returns along with powerhouses from Elizabethtown, Ballard, Boyle County, North Hardin and Trinity."
The 24-team tournament takes place Saturday. Play begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The Knights hosted the HAC tournament for the first time at Rosewood Golf Course. Marion County looked to run their streak as conference champions to three years in a row. Senior Taylor Brady took the course as the defending conference runner-up.
Saturday the Knights played in the Pleasure Ridge Park Invitational in Louisville. The Knights finished fourth with a team score of 323 behind Ballard (297), Oldham County (316) and Male (317).
Joseph Elder finished tied for third place overall. He shot a 73. Blair Gorley and Brian Loper finished with 83's while Taylor Brady had an 85. Korey Hundley finished with an 88.
"Joseph has finished fourth and third in the last two tournaments and is steadily earning respect among his peers and the coaches," Leathers said. "Taylor Brady had an off day, but he also has been consistently on the leader board lately. With the improved play of Hundley and Gorley, we are becoming a solid team that is capable of being very dangerous in the up-coming tournaments."
Thursday the Knights traveled to Bardstown to face Bethlehem at Maywood Golf Course. Marion County won a close one, edging out the Banshees 161 to 167.
Taylor Brady led the Knights with a 36 while Joseph Elder finished with a 39. Brian Loper fired a 41 while Blair Gorley, Korey Hundley and Logan Medley finished with 45's.
The Knights continue match play Wednesday with a home match against Garrard County and Nelson County at Rosewood. They travel to Adair County Tuesday to face the Indians.
