The Marion County High School volleyball team had their best week of the season so far, reeling off ten straight wins to gain a stranglehold on district play and win the Marion County Invitational.
The Knights cruised through their own tournament Saturday at the Roby Dome, losing only two sets out of 12.
The Knights cruised through Bardstown (25-14, 25-15), John Hardin (25-18, 26-24), Allen-County Scottsville (25-9, 25-13), Silver Grove (25-16, 25-13) and Bullitt Central (24-26, 25-14, 25-7).
Marion County came out flat against Bullitt Central in the championship, losing the first set 24-26. The loss left them angry, apparently, as they shredded the Cougars over the next two sets.
They finished off Bullitt Central with an emphatic 25-7 win in the final set.
With a 10-2 record, Marion County moves to second in the region, trailing only Central Hardin (18-1).
Thursday the Knights handled Campbellsville 2-0 (25-9, 25-19) for their third district win of the season. Head Coach David Hibbard gave the bench some reps in the second set as the Knights cruised.
"Any district win is a good win so I'm not really worried about our slippage in set two," Hibbard said. "It's really hard to stay focused when you dominate a team like we did in set one. We have been playing so well that I got some other people some experience in set two. As long as we come out with the win, I'm pleased."
Tuesday of last week the Knights rolled over Adair County in two sets, winning 25-14, 25-6.
Adair comes to town Thursday at the Roby Dome. Varsity play begins at 7 p.m. The Knights travel to LaRue County Saturday for the LaRue County Invitational. Monday of next week they host Russell County at 8 p.m. Tuesday they travel to Campbellsville for a 7 p.m. match.
