The Marion County Knights claimed seventh place in the Jessamine County Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a 61-48 win against Pineville at East Jessamine High School.
The Knights (2-5) finally got a win against struggling Pineville (7-4), who had only lost one game and was on a six game win streak before entering the tournament.
Pineville knocked off Woodford County on the first night but lost three straight to East Jessamine, Grant County and the Knights.
The Knights played Frankfort, West Jessamine and Garrard County close before dropping all three games.
In the morning game, the Knights and the Golden Lions of Garrard County (5-2) held a shooting clinic, making it rain with 19 threes between them.
The Knights led 28-26 at the half and 43-38 after three quarters.
Up 54-53, Chris Southall drained a three to put the Knights up 57-53 with 1:05 to play in the fourth.
Garrard’s Tyler Woods quickly answered with a three of his own, making it 57-56 with 53 seconds to play.
Marion County never trailed in the second half until 26 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter when Garrard County’s Justin Ray layed one in to put the Golden Lions up for good at 58-57.
Southall’s three with 17 seconds didn’t connect and led to another Garrard County easy basket to put them up 60-57.
Chuck Elder scored two in the paint while trying to draw a foul as time expired to make it 60-59.
