The deadline to enroll for coverage through Kynect, Kentucky’s online health insurance exchange, is March 31. The website is kynect.ky.gov.
When Gov. Steve Beshear announced the deadline the exchange, he said Kentucky had 640,000 uninsured citizens (about 15 percent of the state population). Of that group, an estimated 308,000 would qualify for expanded Medicaid coverage.
As of Feb. 28, 264,914 Kentuckians have signed up for insurance through Kynect. This includes 210,545 people who qualified for Medicaid and 54,369 who have signed up for private insurance plans.
State Rep. Terry Mills of Lebanon also wants to remind local residents who do not have insurance to sign up before the March 31 deadline.
State officials estimated that 3,076 Marion Countians were uninsured before Kynect went live.
As of Feb. 28, 1,057 of those Marion Countians had signed up for coverage. That includes 852 people who qualified for Medicaid, 166 people who signed up for private insurance and qualified for a subsidy, and 39 who signed up for private insurance without a subsidy.
