The Marion County Lady Knights girls golf team traveled to Heritage Hills Golf Course in Shepherdsville to compete in the regional tournament on Tuesday of last week, finishing as regional runner-up. Head Coach Chad Spalding was very proud of the way the team played, and commended Coach Jason Simpson for the job he has done with the girls this season.
Olivia Carrico, although sick the night before and all day during play, made a gutsy performance, shooting an 84.
“She really demonstrated a lot of heart to be able to compete the way she did and shoot that score,” Coach Spalding said. “That was sheer team determination.  If she was in an individual tournament, she probably would have withdrawn herself.”
According to Coach Spalding, Amy Brown was able to stick it out and finish with a solid score, although she didn’t play her best golf. Also, Taylor Howard may have had her best round of the year considering the course and the situation.
The girls golf team will now be competing in the state tournament in Bowling Green at the Bowling Green Country Club on Friday and Saturday.
