The Marion County Lady Knights golf team traveled to Bowling Green Country Club Friday to compete in the 2011 state tournament. After a hard fought round of golf on a very difficult course, none of the four Lady Knights advanced past the first day of play. Amy Brown only missed the cut by one stroke, but had a difficult first hole.
“After having most likely one of the worst first holes in a tournament, Amy finished with one of the best final 17,” Head Coach Chad Spalding said.
On the par four 10th hole, Brown had some difficulties and finished with a six over par, ten. Coach Spalding said that Brown played as good as she could under the circumstances after her first hole.
Coach Spalding, along with Coach Jason Simpson, who led the team in tournaments all year, said they were very proud of the girls. They also said that it was an honor for the girls to represent Marion County on the state level, and they cherished the moment. The team faced a tough course with very fast greens and thick and high rough, according to the coaches.
Brown’s final score of 87 led the way for the Lady Knights, followed by Olivia Carrico who shot a 95. Taylor Howard shot a 103 and Brianna Reynolds finished with a 114. Brown, Carrico, and Howard were all seniors on this year’s Lady Knight golf team.
