Lady Knights claim district title

Will play in regional tournament either Wednesday or Thursday

On Saturday night, the Marion County Lady Knights basketball team continued its streak of perfection with a 72-41 win over Adair County in the championship game of the 20th district tournament to improve to 32-0 on the season.  Marion County jumped out to an early 15-0 lead, and cruised to the easy victory.  Makayla Epps led all scorers with 19 points followed by Kyvin Goodin-Rogers with 13 and Patrice Tonge with 10 points.


The Lady Knights were paired with the Commanderettes of Washington County for the first round of the 5th Region Tournament. Marion County has defeated Washington County twice this season, both times by at least 51 points. The Lady Knights and Commanderettes will play in the final game of the opening round tomorrow night at 8 p.m. EST at Green County High School. 

In other district championship games around the 5th region, Elizabethtown edged North Hardin 52-46 for the 17th district crown. LaRue County defeated Caverna 61-40 to win the 18th district, and Nelson County topped Washington County 57-35 to take the 19th district title.  Possible opponents for the Lady Knights in the opening round will be North Hardin, Caverna, or Washington County.

Colleen Rakes was named to the all district academic team.  Patrice Tonge, Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, Logan Powell, and Makayla Epps were named to the all district season team.  Alexus Calhoun, Goodin-Rogers, Powell, and Epps were named to the all district tournament team.  Epps was also named as the 20th district most outstanding player.
