The Marion County High School girls tennis team wrapped up a 4-2 record after two weeks of play. A match against Mercer County wasn't finished due to weather.

"Everybody is at this point pretty much doing what I expected. We're still trying to get our seeding all the way through," Head Coach Angela Holt said. "We just now got to where there are no conflicts with band. They're pretty much where I figured where they would be. They're all very enthusiastic and having fun. They're working at it pretty hard."

Holt and the Lady Knights finished play last week against Mercer County in a match that was shortened due to rain. Mercer was leading 5-0 when rain ended the match.

"Mercer County is one of the power teams in their region as many of their players make the short commute to Lexington's indoor facilities to train year round," Holt said. "We wanted our girls to get a taste of better competition in order to prepare them for our upcoming conference tournament and at our regionals at the end of the season. While Mercer County came out on the short end of their matches I was encouraged by the competitiveness of the games. Our youth and inexperience really shows against a strong and veteran program such as Mercer County, which has a well-established feeder program that gets students involved in tennis by their middle school years and has a JV program that plays on Saturdays."
