The Marion County Lady Knights traveled to Bullitt East High School in Shepherdsville Saturday afternoon to begin preseason play. The Lady Knights faced the Sacred Heart Valkyries in a junior varsity/varsity double header as part of the 10th annual Bullitt East High Potential Showcase.
The game was played in two 20-minute segments, in which the score was reset at the beginning of each. Marion County won each of the segments rather easily, and showed signs of playing to their full capabilities.
“We played really well in spurts,” Head Coach Trent Milby said. “We played half court man to man defense the whole game with a little zone because Sacred Heart runs very good motion offense. I wanted to see where our defense was. The defense played well, but still has room for improvement. Our transition offense was really good, and I was very pleased overall.”
At the end of the first 20 minutes, the Lady Knights came out on top 41-25, and after the second 20 minutes Marion County also came away victorious 42-32. After totaling up the scores, the Lady Knights came away with an impressive 83-57 victory over the 40-minute game.
In the first segment, senior Bre Elder led the way for the Lady Knights by scoring 13 points. Elder was closely followed by junior Makayla Epps who put in 12 points.
