In the Marion County Lady Knights’ game against Campbellsville Dec. 17, the team scored 99 points. With just one more point, the game would have been just the third time the Lady Knights surpassed the century mark. The previous two such instances happened in 2007 and 2008.

“We really shared the ball and shot the ball very well against Campbellsville,” Marion County Coach Trent Milby said. “I was very pleased with our focus and intensity. All 11 players did an outstanding job.”

Early in the game, the Lady Knights showed that they were in complete control.  After a quick burst of offense, Marion County built a double-digit lead before the Lady Eagles could get on the scoreboard. After leading 31-2 after one quarter, the Lady Knights went on to take a 58-15 lead into halftime.

Many of the players who normally come off the bench came out to start the second half. Haeli Howard, Timmera Burton, Colleen Rakes, Evelyn Taylor, Ambrasia Adams and Jordan Thomas all scored in the third quarter. Marion County put up 27 more points over the eight-minute span to increase their lead to 85-24 after three periods.

In the final frame, Marion County kept creeping closer to that rare 100 point mark. Late in the game, after a pair of foul shots by Campbellsville, the Lady Knights had just over 30 seconds left to get one final point that would put them at thee 100 point mark. After three unsuccessful shot attempts on a frantic last possession, the Lady Knights came up just a bit short, but won the game by a final score of 99-32.

Marion County competed in the Republic Bank Classic last weekend. Results from their games were unavailable as of press time. A full recap of the Lady Knights performance in the tournament will be in next week’s issue.
