The Marion County Lady Knights softball team was scheduled to play three games last week, all at Talley Field. However, due to rain, they were only able to get in one of those games.
Campbellsville 1, Marion County 7
On Monday of last week, the Marion County Lady Knights softball team hosted the Campbellsville Lady Eagles at Talley Field. The team took advantage of timely hitting, solid defense, and a good pitching performance by Allye Hamilton to grab the district win with a final score of 7-1, taking their district standings to 3-1, and their overall record to 10-5.
“It was a good win and lets us control our own destiny as No. 1 seed for the district tournament,” Head Coach Trent Milby said.
In the top of the first inning, the second Campbellsville batter hit a home run to grab a 1-0 lead for the Lady Eagles. However, Marion County was able to hold Campbellsville scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Lady Knights would use a walk, two hits, and a sacrifice in the bottom of the first to put two runs across, taking the lead at 2-1. Marion County would then score two more runs in the second inning to push the score to 4-1. Neither team would score in the third or fourth innings, but Marion County would come back in the fifth with two additional runs off of three hits and a sacrifice bunt. They would also score a run in the sixth inning before holding Campbellsville in the top of the seventh, and the Marion County bats would not have to work in the bottom half of the seventh, with the Lady Knights winning the game 7-1.
Two Marion County players, Jordan Thomas and Allison Mattingly, each contributed two hits to lead the Lady Knights’ offense. Emily Fenwick, Ann Morgan Reynolds, and Coco May each chipped in one hit with a team total of 7 hits.
Allye Hamilton pitched for the Lady Knights, getting the win from the mound. Hamilton gave up only three hits, walked no batters, and had ten strikeouts in the contest.
