Lady Knights pound Bethlehem

-A A +A
By Jesse Osbourne

The Marion County High School softball team saw limited action last week due to weather but used their energy to wail on Bethlehem High School on Thursday at Bethlehem.

Six runs in the fourth inning would put the Lady Knights up 12-0 and set up a five-inning blow out against the Banshees at Bethlehem.

Colleen Rakes, Tiffany Sapp, Allison Mattingly, Ann Morgan Reynolds and Christan Montgomery would all collect two hits each as Bethlehem struggled on defense. Mattingly cranked two doubles, one in the second inning and one in the fourth inning. Eight Lady Knight batters would reach first via base on balls.

Sapp led the way on offense with three RBI while Mattingly and Reynolds would knock in two each.

Allye Hamilton was too much for the Banshees on the mound while being backed by a solid defense. She struck out three batters and gave up three hits in five innings.

With the win, the Lady Knights improve their record to 13-4.

The Lady Knights continue play on Thursday against Mercer County home at 6 p.m. On Monday they host Lincoln County at 6 p.m. On Tuesday they travel to Nelson County to play the Lady Cards at 7 p.m.
