The Marion County High School girl's tennis team lost no one to graduation after last season and bring back several conference champions.
Senior Kameron Simmons, last year's Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) tournament singles champion, leads the Lady Knights in singles competition.
"Kameron Simmons returns as our number one singles. She is hoping to have a strong season again this year and defend her Heartland Conference singles champion title," girl's tennis Head Coach Angela Holt said.
The HAC tournament singles runner-up, Leanna Begley, happens to also be a Lady Knight.
"Teammate Leanna Begley continues to show a powerful serve and is working on improving her footwork. Kameron and Leanna will provide senior leadership for our team," Holt said.
Taylor Corbett holds the number three singles seed for the Lady Knights. Holt said Corbett continues to improve with each match.
Marion County also returns solid performers in doubles play.
Madison Cassidy and Elyssa Holt return as HAC tournament runners-up from last year.
"The doubles teams are pretty even in ability and will continue to improve their skills as the season goes on," Holt said. "We're still at the challenge match stage of the season so playing positions may change over the next couple of weeks."
Also vying for seeds in doubles play are Olivia Thompson paired with either Hayley Abell or Brooke Lee.
"Several of the team members played throughout the summer and fall months in tournaments and leagues," Holt said. "Others attended tennis camps to improve their skills. We look for their extra efforts to pay off when they compete."
