The young Lady Knights (4-2) brought their "C" game when they showed up to play on the second day of the Lady Admirals Tournament in Danville on Saturday.

Tates Creek (2-5), who's first win of the season came the night before against Danville (2-2), held their own against the Knights for three quarters and then dominated the last stanza to win 60-49.

"I think we weren't ready to play," said Head Coach Trent Milby. "We were lazy on defense."

The Lady Knights scored only six points in the third quarter and only 19 in the second half. Only three Lady Knights made a basket in the second half.

"They adjusted on Kyvin (Goodin-Rogers) in the second half and left the outside open. Our guards refused to take shots or penetrate. They just weren't there," Milby said.

Goodin-Rogers had nine points in the first half, five of which came from the free throw line. She had zero points in the second half and fouled out with 2:30 top play in the fourth quarter.

Bree Elder, who was the only Lady Knight in double figures with 15, fouled out with 3:30 to play in the fourth.

Elder and Goodin-Rogers are key elements to the Lady Knights' game plan and left huge voids to fill. Both exited the game with the Lady Knights down by five.

At 54-49 on a basket by Andrea King, the Lady Knights would never get closer. Tates Creek finished the game on a six to nothing run. The Lady Knights quit playing with just under a minute to go, not playing defense as Tates Creek dribbled the ball in one spot.

"We brought a "C" game. We have to bring our "A" game every night. We're having trouble scoring and I think we took them for granted," Milby said. "We need to find a way to play the same every night. We haven't found our starting line up yet and we're still working on our rotation. We'll be all right in January, hopefully."

At press time Tates Creek was 2-0 in the Lady Admirals Tournament. Marion County was 1-1. Mercer County was 0-1. Danville was 0-1.

The Marion County High School Lady Knights opened with a slow start but used a big second and third quarter to squash Mercer County High School in the first game of the Lady Admirals Tournament in Danville on Friday night.

Trailing 8-6 after one quarter, the Lady Knights turned up the intensity and the pressure. They led 30-21 at half time, after a 24-point second quarter.

The third quarter was more of the same as the Lady Knights outscored Mercer County 19-8 to lead 49-29 after three quarters.

Marion County didn't need much to hang on as they won 54-40, surviving a late surge by Mercer.

"We got off to a slow start but we got going and had 24 points in the second quarter. If we have good intensity we can do that to teams," Milby said. "We need to work on getting off to better starts."
