Darin Spalding was appointed to the Lebanon City Council July 27 following Kenny Marrett's resignation from the council.
At the time, city officials said they believed his appointment was for the remainder of Marrett's term.
Thursday, Aug. 4, Marion County Clerk Karen Spalding called the Enterprise and said that is not the case. She said she contacted the Kentucky Secretary of State's Office, and based on that conversation, Darin Spalding is appointed until the next election, which will be Nov. 8.
Whoever wins that election will serve the remainder of the term, according to the county clerk.
Karen Spalding added that the City of Raywick has a similar situation. Leroy Piles was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Raywick City Commission after Commissioner Julie Robey moved outside of that city.
To be included on the Nov. 8 ballot, candidates must file with the county clerk's office by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9. The county clerk's office is located on the first floor in the David R. Hourigan Government Building, 223 North Spalding in Lebanon.
The drawing for ballot positions will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, in the county clerk's office.
Piles has already filed to run for the Raywick City Commission seat, according to Karen Spalding.
While the deadline to be included on the November ballot is Aug. 9, write-in candidates have until 4 p.m. Oct. 28 to file their intent to run with the county clerk's office.
