Already a Kentucky Top 10 Winter/Holiday Event, the Heart of Kentucky Holiday Festival, a joint project of Lebanon and Springfield, has been named a Top 20 December Event in the southeastern United States by the Southeast Tourism Society.
The event, held the first weekend in December each year, features more than a dozen activities, including concerts, tours, sight-seeing opportunities, contests and special promotions, all over Marion and Washington counties. It was selected from events held in Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
“This is an incredible honor and one we are happy to share with all our partners in both communities,” said Lebanon Tourist & Convention Commission Executive Director Chris Hamilton. “The notoriety for the event and our communities is invaluable. It gives all we do credibility and tells the world that they can expect quality and exceptional experiences in central Kentucky.”
Only one other local event has received Top 20 southeastern U.S. honors and that is Jets Over Kentucky, which took place recently at the Lebanon-Springfield Airport. Jets Over Kentucky is now the largest event of its kind in the world and drew participants from as far away as England, Spain, Mexico, Canada, China and the Dominican Republic.
Last year, the Heart of Kentucky Holiday Festival drew visitors from Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, West Virginia and Michigan, to name a few.
The STS Top 20 Events publication gets extensive exposure in the media all over the U.S. and Canada. More than 1,600 newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations, AAAs and others receive the listing.
“We have learned that our regional partnerships are critical to the success of the local travel and tourism industry,” said Hamilton. “Our partnerships on events and projects such as the 400 Miles Sale, The Bourbon Chase, John Hunt Morgan Heritage Trail, Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Jets Over Kentucky, Farmers National Bank/Heart of Kentucky Tennis Open and KY 55 Yard Sale have generated tremendous rewards and greatly enhance our ability to grow the visitor traffic to our community.”
