From the food that we eat to the clothes that we wear, agriculture is everywhere. That is why it is important for us to celebrate National Agriculture Week March 13-19. The average American farmer feeds 155 people and with 2.2 million farms agriculture is going strong. As the world population grows so does the production on America’s farms. We are able to feed and clothe more people on less land. As Marion County’s largest industry our 1,100 family farms produce a variety of quality crops and livestock. The purpose of National Agriculture Week is to promote the understanding of the production of food and fiber, value the essential role of agriculture in a strong economy and appreciate the role of agriculture in providing safe, abundant, and affordable food. So join me in celebrating National Agriculture Week by thanking a farmer today. And always remember: Never have so few done so much for so many for so long as the American Farmer.
