School, students, law enforcement went above and beyond

As a parent of a student at Marion County High School, I want to commend the administration of the school and the school system, state and local law enforcement for the way in which they handled the recent tragic situation that was encountered by the school, the students and the community at large.

Without the leadership and concern of all staff, and the willingness of all to do what was right, this could have turned into a major disaster. A great deal of appreciation also goes to the students, who were as much the success of the outcome. Without their support, the administration would of had a much more difficult time achieving their goal.

Many people involved in both the school and law enforcement went above and beyond the call of duty to keep the school running with minimal amount of interruptions to the learning process.

I know that everyone involved will continue to be diligent and to keep up the great work that each of you are doing to provide a teaching atmosphere while keeping our students safe and focused on the task at hand - to prepare our youth for the future.

I would encourage everyone to support the schools and offer to help in any way that benefits the staff and students.

Hayden Johnson Lebanon   Election Day was a success

Congratulations, Marion County voters - 64 percent voter turnout!

It takes so many people working together for Election Day to be a success - our many dedicated poll workers who put in a 14-hour day, those persons responsible for making voting locations accessible, the news media for raising public awareness of polling locations, voter and absentee deadlines, county employees who assist with transporting and storing voting equipment, the local board of elections and the office staff at the county clerk's office who work so diligently long past closing time.

To all involved, my heartfelt praise and appreciation for a job well done.
