Three Excellence in Agriculture Awards were presented at the Young Farmer Luncheon held during the 91st Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting in Louisville. In the ninth year of the awards program, Daniel and Sarah Mattingly, of Raywick, won top honors and will represent Kentucky in national competition at the American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting, held in Atlanta, Ga, in January 2011.
Marion County Farm Bureau received the 2010 Gold Star Award of Excellence for recent achievements in its Young Farmer Program during the recent Kentucky Farm Bureau annual meeting in Louisville.
The Mattinglys were presented with a John Deere Gator, courtesy of Farm Credit Services of Mid-America, $500 cash from Dodge Truck Division of DaimlerChrysler Corp. and trip expenses to the national contest. Daniel is a high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisory in Marion County, but also owns and operates a 50-acre cattle farm with his wife and is a partner with his father on another 100-acre cattle farm. He is currently serving the Marion County Farm Bureau board of directors while Sarah is active on the county’s Women’s Committee.
They have two children, ages 6 and 3.
When the Mattinglys compete for top national honors in Atlanta, they will be vying for a 1500 Dodge Ram Quad Cab pickup truck. Three runners-up in that contest will be awarded a $6,000 U.S. Savings Bond from Stihl and a Farm Boss chain saw.
