The persimmon trees are absolutely loaded this year. I have a good-sized tree in my fence line by the road, and a couple others in the woods, and the limbs are drooping heavily because of all the persimmons. This may mean that we’re in for a bad winter; I hope not.
My grandma Dillon always made persimmon bread, and I would help pick up the persimmons and pick out the ones that weren’t ripe. A good ripe persimmon is delicious, but an unripe bitter one is horrible, one of the worst tastes ever. With the abundance we have this year, it should not be a problem.
