The Marion County High School Marching Knights earned sixth place in Class 4A West Regional competition Saturday at Owensboro High School with a score of 78, and will be competing in the state semi-finals this Saturday.

"We had a great performance on Saturday. The best of the year," Band Director Shane Mitchell said. "We are constantly focused on making the current performance the best one so far. This band has performed better and better every weekend out."

The KMEA State Semi-finals will be held at South Oldham High School Saturday, Oct. 30. The Marching Knights will perform at 12:45 p.m. They will be one of 16 Class 4A bands to compete for four state finalist positions. The top four will compete for the state championship Saturday night at Papa John's Stadium at the University of Louisville.

"I'm very proud of these kids and what they have accomplished this season," Mitchell said. "We're going to continue working hard this week, and see if we can tweak the show enough to earn us one of those coveted state finalist positions."
