45 percent of local earnings come from manufacturing

Manufacturing provides nearly half of the earnings in Marion County while also providing a little more than one-fourth of local jobs, according to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Based on the study, Marion County was ranked 29th nationally with regard to the impact of manufacturing on the local economy.
“Forty-five percent of our economy comes from manufacturing,” said Tom Lund, the Marion County economic development director.
