Unseasonal weather would not dampen the Marion County Knights and Lady Knights as took to the courts for the tennis regionals on May 2 at Freeman Lake Park in Elizabethtown. Marion County emerged victorious in several matches.

Luck and skill would both play a role in Marion County’s advancement in the tournament.

“At this tournament, you expect every match to be competitive,” Coach Landon Williams said as the teams were getting ready to play. “You might luck up and get a good draw at times.”

Alex Spalding, who won the region last year, got a bye immediately advancing him to the next round of matches on Monday. Ryker Cassidy advanced on a win by defeating Brian Sears of LaRue County, 6-0, 6-0.

On the girls’ side, Alyssa Farmer, defeated Caitlyn Lewis, 6-1, 6-1.

Marion County would also advance a pair of doubles teams in the tournament when Trevor Hood and Michael Spalding took a win by knocking out a team from Bardstown, 6-3, 6-0.

Allie Evans and Miranda Bradshaw crushed a duo from Fort Knox, 6-0, 6-0.
