Marion County receives food, shelter grant

Marion County has been awarded a $9,581 grant from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The grant will supplement emergency food, rent/mortgage and utility assistance programs.

The National Board is headed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but also includes representatives from the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Council of Jewish Federations, Catholic Charities USA and the United Way of America.

The local board will determine how the grant funds will be distributed. The local board will include representatives from the Marion County Judge/Executive's Office, the Marion County Ministerial Association, the Red Cross, low-income groups and other interested parties.

Previously, Marion County has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds with the Central Kentucky Community Action Council, Inc.

Public or private voluntary organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Marion County Community Action for an application.

The local board is scheduled to meet at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 25, at the Marion County Community Action office, 334 Hood Avenue in Lebanon.
