Marion County Schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 16, due to the extreme cold weather, according to Marion County Superintendent Roger Marcum.
The National Weather Service is projecting a high temperature of 17 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 degree Celsius).
A wind chill advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. This means cold air and wind combine to created low wind chills which can result in frostbite if precautions are not taken.
Marcum also sent a reminder that school is closed Monday, Jan. 19, for Martin Luther King Day.
