Finally, his time came. Marion County High School senior Matthew Mattingly finally achieved a goal he's had for two years by qualifying for the state cross country meet on Saturday during the region meet.
Mattingly finished seventh out of 78 runners to qualify.
"He was a shoe in last year but he pulled a hamstring. He's really been working hard," Cross Country Head Coach Sherbie King said. "His goal this year was to go to state. I told him before the meet he had to at least get in the top 10."
