Maundy Thursday Services will be held April 21

Five Presbyterian Church (USA) congregations in Marion, Nelson, Taylor and Washington counties of Kentucky and the Episcopal Church of Campbellsville are inviting area residents to attend a worship service on Maundy Thursday, April 21, 2011. The service of Holy Communion and Tenebrae, an ancient liturgy meaning “A Service of Shadows,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Bethel First Presbyterian Church, 502 E. Main St., Campbellsville.
Participating in the service will be pastors and elders from the Bardstown Presbyterian Church, Bethel First Presbyterian Church in Campbellsville, United Presbyterian Church in Lebanon, Springfield Presbyterian Church and Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in Springfield.
The Presbyterian Church has had a presence in Central Kentucky since the late 1700’s and today is the only denomination of the reformed tradition in the area.
There are currently seven Presbyterian churches in the four-county area. The Bardstown church was established in 1786, Big Spring-Bloomfield in 1794, Campbellsville in 1799, Lebanon in 1789, Pleasant Grove in 1833, South Fork in 1931 and the Springfield church in 1788.
