The Marion County Public School System is searching for a new special education director.
Amber Ervin, who was hired as the special education director in 2012 by former Superintendent Chuck Hamilton, will be returning to the classroom next school year.
“This is a decision that I have made for my family. It has been a personal decision, not professional,” Ervin said in an email to the Enterprise. “I have two young girls (ages nine and six) who need their mommy to be present in their lives. Therefore, on Jan. 10, I submitted my letter of request to be transferred back into the classroom. I have enjoyed serving MCPS and working with the staff in this capacity over the last two years.”
Marion County Superintendent Taylora Schlosser said she respects Ervin’s decision.
“We’ll miss her, but she’ll still be working in our district,” Schlosser said. “I appreciate everything she’s done to help us.”
Ervin has been with the Marion County Public Schools since the fall of 2003.
The special education position was officially posted on the MCPS website, Wednesday, April 16.
