The annual Memorial Day program will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Lebanon National Cemetery. VFW Post 5910 is hosting this year’s event.
State Senator Jimmy Higdon will be the guest speaker. Higdon is a graduate of Marion County High School and Morehead State University. After college, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Higdon has served in Kentucky’s General Assembly since 2002, and he has been a state senator since 2009. He is serving as chairman of the senate’s Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection Committee.
The service will include music by the Marion County High School band, Ashley Mann and Victoria Thompson. The Marion County Veterans Honor Guard and the Marion County JROTC will present and retire the color.
The names of Marion Countians who were killed in action will be read, and a wreath will be presented in honor of the last local veteran interred at the cemetery.
