Students entering Marion County Public Schools for the first time should register at the county elementary schools between noon and 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4.

Children 5 and under on or before Oct. 1 should register for kindergarten. Students in the 4-year-old program during the 2010-11 academic year should also register for kindergarten.

On registration day, parents should bring a certified copy of their children's birth certificates and any physical and immunization records. Under House Bill 706, first-year students in public schools, public preschools or Head Start programs must also have proof of a vision examination performed by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.

Before the first day of school, the following documents must be on file for each student:

- Certified copy of a birth certificate

- Physical examination record

- Immunization record

- Vision exam

- Dental health screening

Parents should note that no child will be permitted to enter school on the first day without these documents on file at the school office.

Head Start will also be having registration for 3- and 4-year-olds at each elementary school.
