For more than a year, Marion County school officials have been working to convince the public that the "recallable nickel" is needed, but many voters remain unconvinced. Take Jack Sheperson, for instance. He said that having newer school buildings would be nice, but he added that every person has a limit on how much they are willing to give, even if it is for something that would be nice. He and his wife, Kim, both said they understand that the local schools need taxes to operate, but they believe the "nickel" is not needed.
