The 2011-12 school year has officially come to a close, and Marion County Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton said the year went very well with minimal distractions. That is, until recently when Hamilton learned that local preschool funding would be slashed by 61 percent (approximately $258,000) for the 2012-13 school year.
"We were given some indication that we would probably see a reduction, but we were in no way prepared for a 61 percent reduction," Hamilton told school board members at the board's May 22 meeting.
