Last weekend the Marion County 11-12-year-old girls softball All-Stars won their district tournament and advanced to the state tournament that begins on July 18 in Prestonsburg.

The girls lost only one game during pool play but would later avenge that loss to South Hardin with a 2-1 victory in the championship game. Here are the results from the district tournament.   Marion County 10, Russell County 0 Abby Miles came up big for Marion County, scoring three of the team's 10 runs in a blow out against the tournament's host.  Marion County jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after two innings. A big third inning with four more runs all but KO'd Russell County. A single run in the fourth would be all Marion County needed to breeze through with a win.   Marion County 11, Albany 4 Marion County controlled this game as well, batting around in the first inning and piling on six runs from 10 batters. Albany pieced together three runs in the second and another run in the fourth but never threatened Marion County who steam rolled to another victory in pool play. Abby Miles, McKenzie Reynolds, Macy McFall and Ashley Walls all came across twice for two runs apiece.   Marion County 17, Burkesville 0 Burkesville could never generate any offense as Marion County annihilated them in pool play.  It only took Marion County three innings to finish off Burkesville. No Burkesville base runner ever got past second base.    Marion County 6, Adair County 3 Marion County jumped ahead 3-2 in the second inning and broke a 3-3 tie in the third then never looked back against the tournament's host team. Insurance runs by Abby Miles and Taylor Wade off Wade's home run in the fifth inning would provide enough cushion for Marion County to advance to the district finals.    Marion County 2, South Hardin 1 Ashley Walls' run in the sixth inning would break the backs of South Hardin's all-stars in the district final on July 5.  Marion County held a 1-0 advantage until the fourth inning when South Hardin tied it with a Bridgette Conder run.  Abby Miles, Rebekah Taylor and Taylor Wade collected the only hits for Marion County in a pitcher's dual. Walls and Taylor would score the pivotal runs.
